The project aims to demonstrate how urban car garages can be reused and strengthen urban resilience through adaptation to adaptive controlled cultivation environments.
Using speculative and user-centered design methods, the research project is focused on an increased understanding of how car garages as a typology can be developed to strengthen resilience in the city. By developing a web-based manual as decision support for planning, as well as through interactive 3D models that improve the understanding of the concept, the goal is to support robust decision-making for how the adaptive reuse of end-of-life buildings for food supply can act as a driving force for sustainable development.
Through case studies of car garages in Sweden and Poland, virtual strategic models are developed that aim to reveal the perceived difficulties in adapting multi-story garages to growing environments. The main target group is decision-makers, such as urban planners, investors, and developers.
