We complement the already existing center formations in Sweden, i.e. ANITA and SOLSTICE. The current proposal takes the more holistic and future aim on the remaining issues relating to such activities with a main focus on sustainability through recycling and reuse of nuclear fuel. This aim will also attract younger students to the field whose focus is novelty, sustainability and safety.
We will address: 1) new technologies for separation and fuel production, 2) new methods for reactor monitoring, 3) new safeguards approaches, 4) new structural materials, 5) new radiation protection strategies, and 6) nuclear data. In this proposal, Young Faculty is promoted as PIs and the vast majority of the funding is directed towards PhD students and younger researchers.
The baseline is that we have gathered the majority of the actors in academic Sweden together with major stake holders . The outcome will show where actions are needed for building a Gen IV pilot plant.
