As compared with solar power and wind power, ocean wave power is more stable, predictable and plentiful.
But the present ocean wave converters can hardly contribute significantly to electricity production because they rely on conventional electromagnetic generators that are too bulky and difficult to install and maintain in the corrosive ocean environment.
In this project, we will develop a new type of ocean wave converters that harvest and store the enormous triboelectricity at seawater/plastic interface to avoid the use of conventional electromagnetic generators. They are thereby lightweight, low-cost and very suitable for the weak ocean climate in Sweden.
This project will expedite the wide spread of ocean wave power to contribute to the resilience of fossil-free and sustainable electricity production in Sweden and worldwide.
