The project, in close collaboration with Holmen and SCA, will test a new method for drying wood using microwave technology. The drying process is a critical one that currently takes time, leads to quality issues, waste, and negative environmental impact.
The solution has a clear business focus and good prospects for large-scale application. A pilot will be developed and tested in a real-world customer environment during the project, and it will also include business development efforts and IP work.
The estimated time savings are 55% and the estimated decrease in CO2 emissions alone is 0.14 million tons per year with a global market share of 1% in 2036. The estimated energy efficiency is 10-25% per cubic meter of sawn wood.
The industry has shown a high level of interest and companies that have seen the results of drying wood in the MicroDri demo facility are impressed and surprised by the solution's performance.
