The number of mobile network base stations so called enclosures is growing fast in urban areas, close to both residential and commercial buildings.
These enclosures dissipate a large amount of heat through their cooling systems while there is a considerable heating demand in the buildings nearby, particularly for domestic hot water all year round. This project aims at recovering the heat dissipated by mobile network enclosures.
The integration should follow several goals simultaneously: more efficient thermal system which will simultaneously act as the cooling system for enclosures and heating system for building (energy use minimization), simple and affordable retrofit method to recover and use the heat inside the buildings (resource including CAPEX minimization), and finally by smart control and energy storage mechanism to match heat supply and demand, shave the peak power and avoid high electricity prices (OPEX minimization).
