With increased demands for energy efficiency and for affordable housing, we see an opportunity to create more housing through the conversion of outdated office space, unused business premises or storage and laundry rooms into housing.
Renovation and conversion of premises into homes is partly about technical solutions to meet requirements for energy efficiency, indoor environment and accessibility, and partly other requirements that must be met in order for a building to be converted to other uses.
The project will develop practice-based research on how to renovate and convert existing premises into housing that meets future needs.
They shall be environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient attractive with good indoor environment, safe and affordable in price. Technical solutions are evaluated and demonstrated that promote scale-up. Goal conflicts in current regulations and legislation are identified. The project contributes with knowledge to clients who will make decisions.
