Refiber: Resource-efficient technology and business models for recycled fiber-based products

The goal is to develop technology and materials for production of recycled glass wool-based acoustic products as well as the associated circular business model for take-back, with properties that meet and exceed the demand for circular acoustic solutions.

The innovation height and potential lies in the combination of energy and resource-efficient technology, where fiber-based materials can be recycled into the same or refined applications as well as new circular business models in the construction industry, which greatly increases energy and resource efficiency throughout the chain.

LCA calculations show a 59% CO2 reduction.

Production case of 1,000,000 m2 (scenario for Ecophon) corresponds to energy saving of 2000 MWh is obtained, climate saving of 0.62 ktons CO2equiv, reduced consumption of 580 tonnes of virgin material, and reduced waste to landfill by 840 tonnes. There is potential for global commercialization of Swedish innovation and the development of a new research area.
