Production and processing of wood-based boards presents a big challenge: unsustainable waste generation from wood dust (MDF waste). Manufacturing requirements are high and only a small part of this waste can be reused as the MDF fibres are very fine and contaminated with glue. Fine fraction biomass is costly to transport and the main bioenergy generation method, combustion, leads to harmful NOx emissions from the glue in the material.
Meva Energy has developed a unique biomass gasification technology able to reuse fine fraction biomass residues to generate renewable syngas for combined heat and power, with no NOx emissions. This project will develop and demonstrate a gasification plant to use for first time MDF waste as feedstock for power generation in an IKEA furniture factory.
A successful demo will enable the market breakthrough of Meva Energy in this industry. If implemented in all IKEA group, Meva Energy could save 650,000 tons of CO2/year.
