Grant Description

The project aims for a greener and circular process for Li-ion batteries recycling and production. First, a more efficient recovery of lithium will be investigated. Then, the dissolution of valuable metals will be tested using environmentally friendly chemicals.

Afterwards, metals will be recovered together using greener chemicals, which is more efficient than how it is usually done. Finally, to close the loop, the mixed metals will be tested to produce new battery materials. An LCA will help to evaluate the environmental performance. The results and knowledge acquired will be disseminated to a wide audience, including companies and the general public.

Thus, the project combines the expertise of industrial and academic partners to develop an innovative and greener recycling process.

It integrates recycling of Li-ion batteries and production using recovered materials, creating a unique competence in the Nordic region to tackle our society’s goals of sustainability and circular economy.
