Thermochemical conversion of biomass in fluidised beds to intermediaries for further upgrading offers path to raw material flexible biofuel production. It is a production path with high capacity, which when integrated with combustion plants, in a polygeneration concept, shows high efficiency.
Polygeneration can be used to produce intermediaries with different content of condensable components (tar) and permanent gases in existing cogeneration plants. These intermediaries have different yields and costs at the production- and upgrading stages respectively. A holistic analysis of the value chains is thus required.
The project applied for aims to, based on key technical figures and plant data, analyse production capacity, efficiency and sustainability for the value chain from biomass via intermediates to biofuels. Furthermore, it aims to clarify the national production potential when utilizing the Swedish CHP sector, as well as the limitations of regional biomass supply.
