The project aims at the development of alkaline membrane fuel cells which are expected to be an important component for the storage of weather-dependent renewable electricity.
Alkaline membrane fuel cells also have the advantages that they use cheap metal catalyst (nickel, copper or iron) instead of platinum, and that they do not require ultra-pure hydrogen like today's fuel cells.
The Swedish Energy Agency assesses that the project has the potential to develop new knowledge that can contribute to a flexible and robust energy system, a completely renewable energy system, and a resource-efficient society.
