This projekt researches solar fuel generation in the form of hydrogen derived directly from water by photoelectrochemistry (PEC) by using oxynitride material.
Oxynitrides have emerged as promising photoanode candidates since their band gaps correlate with high photocurrent densities.
By integrating these types of photoanodes into tandemcells for PEC water splitting, with semiconductor bandgap below 2,1 eV, the project goal is to reach 20 % solar-to-hydrogen efficiency over 20 hours.
The Swedish Energy Agency assesses that in the long term the project can contribute to the energy transition if the role of hydrogen in the energy system increases.
