Grant ID P2020-90130_Energi
Grant Description

Chlorate is produced by electrolysis, in which sodium dichromate is an important excipient electrolyte component (present in various forms, here chromate represents all Cr(VI) oxides in the process).

Today there are no commercial alternatives to chromate and proposed alternative process solutions show 25-50% increased energy consumption.

This project deals with substances that may replace critical roles of chromate, mainly the selectivity for hydrogen evolution.

Nafion covered cathodes will be studied and promising results on cerium- and manganese oxide coatings will be developed further.
