The project addresses the problem of CO2 and energy for road transports. High Capacity Transports, HCTs, show energy savings of 10-30% and reduction of Total Cost of Ownership up to 30%.
The proposed solution is a dolly with electric drive. Research shows that it enables an additional 10-20% energy saving for an HCT vehicle with a diesel-powered tractor. The following aspects are important for enabling such dollies: * The energy management of vehicles must be predictive, typically 1-10 km ahead.
* The actuation must be distributed over the HCT, which requires addition to the current signal interface. The project provides an input to such. * Distribution of driving and braking forces between axles, on several articulated vehicle units, have to be balanced for road safety and energy savings. * An expansion of performance-based legal space is needed. The project provides an input to such.
The project develops test methodology, both tests with real vehicles and simulation.
