Demonstration of a new Swedish electric driveline for sea transports

The aim of this project is to develop a demonstrator for the change to electric drive in work boats. The project comes from the industry’s need to switch to low-emission solutions.

The requirements for a demonstrator for electric drive will be developed together with end-users like SSRS and Färjerederiet with technical competence from SSPA, SwedeShip, KTH, Zparq and Micropower Group.

The key to driving this transformation is based on research from KTH which has resulted in the innovation start-up Zparq.

The technology has the potential to revolutionise electrification of marine transportation with an electric motor design which is significantly more compact and simpler than other market offerings.

This leads to longer range, lower price and quieter running, collectively facilitating a quicker transformation to fossil-free marine transportation.

The performance, efficiency, noise levels, energy consumption and total cost-of-ownership of the demonstrator will be verified.
