Sweden’s national target to achieve 100% renewable electricity production by 2040 is pushing electricity production, such as photovoltaic (PV), closer to the final users.
This transformation poses several challenges to both dense and rural communities with historic and cultural value, where the installation and integration of PV could be very controversial.
Based on our previous research, we claim that a designed-driven, democratic method is needed to include prosumers in the transformation of areas located in or nearby historic urban and rural contexts into energy-integrated landscapes.
This approach will be co-created with policy makers, citizens' associations, and energy companies in two urban and rural testbeds in Norrbotten and Gotland, respectively.
