The primary source of power for trucks and work vehicles will become increasingly electric.
This means that auxiliary systems such as truck cranes and actuator systems (work hydraulics) for work machines must be adapted to have electricity as the primary energy source.
Energy efficiency becomes extremely important here as it can be translated into smaller batteries which means reduced cost and weight.
However, the transition to electrical systems also enables new system concepts, e.g. the use of several electrically powered pumps, which can make the systems more efficient. Digitized control of systems offers new opportunities for energy efficiency.
Digitalisation means an increasing the degree of automation in machines, which can increase productivity and also save energy.
In this project we study a number of applications such as an electrified truck crane and hybrid-electric backhoe loader and associated work tools.
