Grant Description

Physical activity (PA) is a key determinant in successful rehabilitation, patients that initiate movement and engage sooner in PA have better outcomes.

FLX improves the way people move, reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disease and injury, helping self-management of pain and improved movement (flexibility, function, and mobility). It uses advanced biomechanical science to produce personalised physical routines to compute biomechanical information.

FLX centres around Intrinsic Biomechanics principles, using anatomy and acquired restrictions in the body through life to explain movement.

Improving a person s Intrinsic Biomechanics produces impactful and enduring effects, fostering a more sustainable engagement with PA.

Goal Manager® is a cloud-based software with assessment and goal tracking capabilities, used predominantly in rehabilitation with application to many aspects of the medical field.

This study will investigate a crossover between the two organisations, using a single observational study to test the applicability of biomechanical technology in a brain injury rehabilitation population, enhancing movement through FLX to retain or regain PA to improve functional outcomes and determine real-world impact.

Both companies seek to advance their existing healthcare technologies, FLX expanding to a new population and Goal Manager® expanding to include the reporting of biomechanical data analysis in the existing software.

Both programmes have existing application, Goal Manager® with use cases in the rehabilitation field1-8, with many private users and deployment in an NHS trust in the Northwest.

FLX has completed controlled studies demonstrating efficacy in reduction of the risk musculoskeletal disease and has endorsement from independent healthcare professionals.

Early FLX studies indicate a marked reduction in absenteeism among police force9 and fire service10 personnel, demonstrating occupational health benefits.

They have also shown a value in pain management in care home11, health club12 and outpatient physiotherapy clinic13 environments, with quicker access to personalised care resulting in better compliance with PA programmes.
