International Academy for research in palliative care and public health

Other than the beginning of life, life’s end in our societies has been rather neglected so far as an important area of public health research.

Within the next decade the number of people reaching their life’s end will raise in the same dimension as the number of health care professionals will decrease.

Communities will be confronted with enormous challenges how to cope with this situation.These topics are within the scope of the PHPCI research academy, offered for the third time (every 2nd year) in co-organisation with PHPCI’s conferences, this year in Bern from October 22 to 25 (see www.phpci2024.org ).The topics of this research academy are:-Frameworks and theoretical models for research in public health palliative care: we will present and discuss the history of public health palliative care, the theoretical origins of public health palliative care, the focus shift from individual quality of life towards population driven wellbeing, prevention and harm reduction and early intervention into the community.-Participatory action research in this field: to uncover the transformative potential of community-based participatory action research, and highlighting its role in shaping responsive and impactful public health palliative care strategies.-Evaluation of complex programs: Navigate the intricacies of evaluating complex programs within public health palliative care, emphasizing methodologies and insights crucial for effective program assessment and improvement.
