Interprofessional Collaboration in Primary Care: A Study on the Production and Use of Knowledge Between Professions

Interprofessional care can be understood as a reaction against the so-called "siloed care" that has characterized healthcare over the past decades. By organizing care around individuals' needs rather than professional or organizational boundaries, the aim is to achieve effective and patient-centered care. This collaborative project focuses on how Bräcke diakoni can use ideas, tools, and approaches from the concept to create sustainable primary care.

While interprofessional care has become somewhat of a buzzword, this project is expected to offer a more nuanced understanding of the implications of interprofessional approaches. The study addresses two significant knowledge needs within the organization. The first is to gain deeper insights into how interprofessional care is enacted in practice.

The second is to gain knowledge about how interprofessional approaches to care can be situated to the specific contexts of different primary healthcare centers.

Through a combination of observation, interviews, and document analysis, the study is designed to scrutinize everyday care practices and articulate different epistemologies, logics, and priorities that shape daily work at healthcare centers. Furthermore, the study includes an experimental component, where the analytical insights are actively utilized to support Bräcke diakoni in realizing interprofessional care across their healthcare centers.
