My research seeks to reshape urgent debates on sustainability and energy transitions by calling attention to the work of maintaining and repairing energy systems. My doctoral research project documented the centrality of this work to the long-term sustainability of solar energy projects in the Sundarbans region of India - as well as the consequences of its structural devaluation.
My programme for the fellowship aims to amplify this message by disseminating research findings and developing impact opportunities at scale, while looking beyond the timeframe of the fellowship to ensure its long-term legacy. This aim will be achieved through five interlinked objectives:
Produce a book manuscript from my doctoral thesis to be submitted for publication; the book will be primarily aimed at an academic audience, thus paving the way for my career progression in academia
Communicate research findings to colleagues, students, and the wider public through dissemination activities such as departmental seminars, guest lectures, and generalist pieces in public-oriented outlets
Undertake an overseas institutional visit to work with a renowed expert at the gender-energy nexus; this collaboration will help me finetune and enrich the book content as well as develop new thinking
Undertake a follow-on trip to the Sundarbans together with a India-based creative practitioner(s), which will constitute the premise for a new, multimodal research project to be undertaken after the fellowship
Formulate a grant proposal for this project to extend my work into the future; the project will build on my doctoral research project but allow me to speak to publics and debates beyond the academy. The fellowship will be geared towards delivering the following outputs: One book manuscript, either drafted in its entirety or submitted for publication
A number of presentations, which can be later repurposed to write new papers At least one generalist piece published in a public-oriented outlet
One zine/multimedia report documenting the activities undertaken as part of the follow-on trip to the Sundarbans with the creative practitioner(s) selected for the collaboration A grant proposal extending my work into the future and strengthening its impact.
