In 2022, the Chinese Embassy provided a grant for the construction of Guyana’s Business Center for Disabled Persons.
The center is a public welfare project aimed at developing support for disabled persons in the fields of employment, education, medical care and health care. The center was initiated by the First Lady of Guyana and supported by the Guyanese Government. China’s specific financial contribution is unknown.
On August 11, 2022, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of the center.
China’s Ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan, Alya Ali, the First Lady of Guyana, Guyana’s Minister of Human Resources and Social Security, the Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Water Affairs, the Chairman of the Sixth District, and the Coordinator of the Committee of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities attended the ceremony.
