Grant Description
On September 13, 2020, the Government of Indonesia and China's National Development and Reform Commission signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build a Center for Medicinal Plant Conservation, Research and Innovation. In August 12, 2022, the construction of the facility was still ongoing.
Incense harvesters in Indonesia’s North Sumatra province say the construction of the new center threatens their livelihoods. As of October 23, 2023, multiple buildings were completed as a part of Phase one of the project.
On August 23, 2024, the Joint Committee of the China-Indonesia Medicinal Plant Protection Research and Innovation Base stated the project would be completed by October 2024.
