The team was made up of members from the Heji Hospital Affiliated to Changzhi Medical College and the Fifth People's Hospital of Datong.
During their time in Cameroon, the team worked with Cameroonian officials to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, assisted 12,604 patients online and in-person, and trained Cameroonians in traditional Chinese medicine.
On May 3, 2022, Cameroonian President Paul Biya awarded the members of the 21st Chinese Medical Team the Cameroonian National Honorary Knight Medal for their efforts.
