In mid-February 2021, the Chinese Government announced its intention to grant 20,000 COVID-19 vaccines to the Dominican government as part of its donation of 10 million COVID-19 vaccines to the global COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) initiative. According to Dominica News Online, an official handover ceremony for the vaccines was held on March 4, 2021.
