Grant Description

On June 8, 2021, the fourth batch of 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines donated by China to Cambodia arrived in Phnom Penh. On the same plane, there were also 500,000 does of Sinovac vaccine which had been purchased by local businesses. The vaccines were worth $9 million dollars.

This is the fourth batch of vaccines donated by the Chinese government to Cambodia free of charge after the first batch of 600,000 doses in February 2021 (see Record ID#95070), the second batch of 700,000 doses in March 2021 (see Record ID#95877), and the third batch of 400,000 doses in April 2021 (see Record ID#95596).

According to the UNICEF COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard, the price of a single Sinopharm/Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine dose is $18 (https://www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?cote=DCD/DAC/STAT(2022)33&docLanguage=En). As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the February 2021 donation as $10.8 million.
