Grant Description

In 2021 and 2022, the Chinese Government donated approximately 5 million Sinopharm doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of Vietnam.

The Chinese Government delivered 500,000 donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of Vietnam on June 20, 2021 (see Record ID#90436).

Then, on August 23, 2021, People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China donated 200,000 doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines and 201,600 single-use syringes to Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense (see Record ID#95973).

Then, on September 11, 2021, the Guangxi Provincial Government of China donated 800,000 Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine doses, an ECMO machine and other medical equipment (worth RMB 62.55 million) to the Government of Vietnam (see Record ID#95975).

On February 8, 2022, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China delivered another batch of Covid-19 vaccines of 300,000 doses to Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense.

Then, on April 8, 2022, the Chinese Government delivered 3.5 million donated doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines and 3.85 million single-use syringes to the Government of Vietnam (see Record ID#95976). The shipment arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The vaccines were donated with the intent of being administered to Chinese nationals working in Vietnam, Vietnamese citizens who intend to work or study in China, and residents in provinces bordering China, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

A vaccine handover ceremony took place virtually between the Ministry of Health of Việt Nam (represented by deputy health minister Trần Văn Thuấn) and the Ministry of Commerce of China (represented by vice minister Qian Keming).

According to the UNICEF COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard, the price of a single Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine dose is $18 (https://www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?cote=DCD/DAC/STAT(2022)33&docLanguage=En). As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the February 2022 donation as $5.4 million.
