Grant Description

On March 10, 2021, the Chinese Government committed a $2,000,000 USD grant to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) as part of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to assist the response to the food shortage caused by COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone.

The grant was fully disbursed on March 20, 2021. 1,800 of the 2,265 metric tons of rice procured under the $2 million USD grant were handed over to Sierra Leone's Ministry of Social Welfare on July 26, 2021. The project was completed on February 10, 2022. The rice was to be used to feed 21,000 households throughout Sierra Leone.
