Grant Description

China Export-Import Bank pledges $1,573,213,233 for Kano Metro Light Rail Project The China Export-Import Bank pledges to shoulder 85% of the financial size of the Kano Metro Light Rail Project.

This project was approved by the Nigerian State House of Assembly on October 10th, 2016 for a total cost of $1,850,839,098. 85% of this project cost is $1,573,213,233. The federal government then recommended Phase 1 of the project begin. Phase 1 consists of a light rail from Dawanau Grains Market to Bata and was expected to be completed within 20 months.

China Railway Construction Corporation is responsible for this implementation.

The consortium of China Railway 18th Bureau Group and China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau Group will construct Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the network. The total network is expected to have a length of 74.3 km and a maximum design speed of 100 km/hour.

Upon completion, this light rail network is expected to reach Janguza-Bata, Jogana-Bata, Dawanau-Bata and Kwanar Dawaki-Bata routes in Kano. The exact implementation timeline of this project is unknown. The financial details are also unknown.
