On January 7, 2021, it was announced that the Chinese Government provided USD $17 million in financial support to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The support was intended to alleviate burdens from the COVID-19 pandemic.
USD $15 million of the USD $17 million was intended to be channeled towards development projects and the remaining USD 2 million was intended to be used to support the DRC's mandate as head of the African Union bloc. The financial support was announced in a joint press conference between the Chinese and DRC governments in Kinshasa.
In addition to the financial support, the Chinese government provided RMB 180 million in debt forgiveness to the DRC government (Record ID# 93106), and donated 100,000 vaccines (see: Record ID# 97692).
