Grant Description

On March 11, 2020, the Government of China committed to donate USD 1,000,000 to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to fight pediatric malnutrition in Senegal during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The donation was completed by November 3, 2020 and intended to benefit 17,355 children under the age of five in north and east Senegal including the regions of Diourbel, Louga, Matam, Tambacounda and Saint Louis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the risk of malnutrition among children in Senegal due to the deterioration in the quality of their food, lack of access to nutrition and other health care services, and the shocks caused by the pandemic.
