In 2021, the Chinese Government donated approximately 300,000 doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of Guinea.
The first batch, containing 200,000 doses worth an estimated USD $3.6 million, was delivered on March 3, 2021, in Conakry, the capital of Guinea.
Guinean President Alpha Condé had requested the vaccines from Chinese President Xi Jinping on January 25, 2021, and China’s ambassador in Conakry announced the donation in a February 2nd meeting with Guinea’s Foreign Minister Ibrahima Khalil Kaba.
At the March 3rd handover ceremony at the airport, Chinese Ambassador to Guinea Huang Wei, Guinean Foreign Minister Ibrahima Khalil Kaba, the Guinean Health Minister, and the Director of the National Health Security Administration were in attendance.
The event was covered by Guinean National Television, other local media, and international outlets such as AFP, France 24 TV, and Deutsche Welle.
On May 30, 2021, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China delivered the second batch containing 100,000 Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine doses to Guinea’s Ministry of Defence (see record ID #93843).
