On September 29, 2021, the Chinese Government delivered 400,000 donated doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The vaccines were intended to complement other already available vaccines in the DRC, such as Astra Zeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer. The donation took place during a handover ceremony at N'Djili International airport.
Those in attendance included the Congolese Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention Jean-Jacques Mbungani Mbanda, the Chinese Ambassador to the DRC Zhu Jing, experts from UNICEF and WHO, and other Congolese officials.
At the event, Ambassador Zhu Jing and Minister Jean-Jacques Mbungani signed an act of delivery and receipt of the vaccines.
