Grant Description

On May 29, 2020, the Chinese government donated anti-epidemic materials to the government of Botswana.

The materials included 15,000 protective medical face masks, 150,000 surgical masks, 3,000 medical protective isolation shoe covers, 5,000 pieces of disposable protective clothing, 7,000 medical protective goggles and 7,000 disposable sterilized rubber surgical gloves to the Government of Botswana.

These materials will be used for COVID-19 prevention efforts by front-line anti-epidemic workers such as doctors, nurses, and border inspectors. The monetary value of this donation is unknown.

A handover ceremony was held for this donation at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Botswana on May 29, 2020.

This batch of materials was delivered over two separate days with the first arrival being on May 29, 2020 and the second flight arriving on June 1, 2022. This unique delivery scenario was due to international flight capacity constraints.

China’s Ambassador to Botswana Zhao Yanbo and Botswana Minister of Health went to the airport for the handover ceremony on May 29, 2020.
