Grant Description

In 2006, Andes Petroleum, a joint venture subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Sinopec, launched the Andes Cocoa Garden Project in Ecuador as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program to “build a harmonious community” in the areas surrounding its oil operations.

Through this initiative, Andes Petroleum funded and delivered social development projects benefiting local communities.

These included the provision of mobile medical teams to expand access to healthcare services and the donation of school buses to improve student access to education.

By 2015, the project had resolved the commuting difficulties for more than 500 students living in rural areas whose homes were far from schools, while also strengthening access to medical care for local residents.

The program was highlighted in CNPC’s international CSR reports as a model of corporate-community engagement in Latin America.
