Grant Description

On November 27, 2020, the Chinese government provided the Solomon Islands Government with a SBD 1.22 million grant for Covid-19 relief, which will be used to renovate the National Referral Hospital's isolation ward, according to the Solomon Islands government.

The Bank of the South Pacific Limited provided the check that the Chinese government gave to the Solomon Islands government.

According to the Solomon Islands government website, this grant is part of China's ongoing Covid-19 aid to the country. "China has provided 300 thousand USD dollars funding support to Solomon Islands, helped built the first nucleic testing laboratory and provided 4000 test kits, 200 thousand personal protective equipment to health institutions” outlined Mr.

Li Ming, the Chinese ambassador to Solomon Islands.

On March 9, 2021, a work contract was signed between the Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, and the contractor CCECC South Pacific (Solomon) Limited.

The Managing Director of CCCECC South Pacific (Solomon) Limited, Mr Huang Pengfei, assured that work would be completed in six weeks time," according to the Solomon Islands Herald.

On July 21 2021, the isolation ward was handed over to the Solomon Islands Minister of Health and Medical Services in a ceremony.
