Grant Description

Chinese Government provides Chinese Government Scholarships to study in China to 20 Solomon Islanders for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, according to the Chinese Embassy in the Solomon Islands.

This project is linked to previous scholarship disbursements in the 2020/2021 academic year (Record ID#89945) and the 2021/2022 academic year (Record ID#89946).

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development received these scholarships to disperse and Tertiary Education and Skills Authority has help implement the application process for the scholarships.

The students who received the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 may have been delayed in going to China by ongoing pandemic restrictions. On March 20, 2022, over 90 Solomon Islands students left Honiara for China on a chartered Solomon Airlines Airbus. This was the first group of students to travel to China since the beginning of the pandemic.

These government scholarships were part of the aid Solomon Islands received from the People's Republic of China after breaking ties with the Republic of China on September 16, 2019.

Some of the students who received these scholarships had previously studied in Taipei before finishing their study abroad program in the People's Republic of China.
