On June 27, 2018, the Chinese Government donated a set of agricultural equipment in Cuba use in the Guantánamo Province.
The donation included 43 tractors, backhoes seeders, two dredge trucks, an equal number of vans and four engines, and other agricultural machinery and equipment.
The donation also included irrigation equipment for banana cultivation in the Guantánamo Province towns of Yateritas, Jamaica-San Carlos, Chutines, Imías and around the city of Guantánamo.
The donation was expected to help the food production in the municipalities of Guantánamo, El Salvador, Niceto Pérez, and San Antonio del Sur. Agricultural, agroforestry and industrial grain companies were expected to benefit. The monetary value of this donation is unknown.
It is unclear when this project was committed. It is possible this project was committed in January 2018, when the Chinese Government and Cítricos Caribe S.A. (CCSA) signed an implementation contract on increasing agricultural aid to Cuba (see project ID#72032), but AidData has yet to find evidence directly linking to two projects. This issue merits further investigation.
