According to media articles, in 2018, ZTE Corporation South Africa and MTN SA Foundation, a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, made a joint commitment to assisting the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children in Athlone, Cape Town, Africa.
As part of the contribution, ZTE built and furnished a 20-seat multimedia center for the Saartjie Baartman Centre, allowing users to access digital content and technology, as well as giving them a window to future skills development.
ZTE also provided IT hardware equipment such as computers and routers, as well as the interior decoration with clear style.
The MTN SA Foundation pledged to provide free Internet connectivity to power the center for two years and to provide ICT training to the facilitators. The monetary value of the center is unknown.
Established in 1999, the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children is a one-stop centre for survivors of gender-based violence.
It houses 120 women and children who benefit from the Residential Programme, which provides sanctuary for a period of up to four months.
