Grant Description

On September 28, 2018, the Government of Burundi and the People's Republic of China signed a grant agreement, aiming at further strengthening friendship and promoting economic and technical cooperation. Mr.

Domitien NDIHOKUBWAYO, Burundian Minister of Finance, and HE LI Changlin, Chinese Ambassador to Burundi, signed the agreement. This grant amounts to RMB 300,000,000 and will finance the RN1 Bujumbura-Bugarama Deviation Project and other projects.

According to a media report on October 2, 2020, the RN1 project aims to create a detour from the National Road No1 due to the proximity of the offices of the presidency. The work, which should last a year, has not yet started. But the authorized services are reassuring. The project has since begun implementation, as it had been reported in Q2 2023 that construction will begin in Q3.

The deviation will take place at the level of the Gikoma river over a linear distance of 5.5 km.
