Grant Description
Prior to the unveiling ceremony of the China-South Africa Joint Research Center for the Development and Utilization of Mineral Resources (Record ID#59043) on September 14, 2018, the Chinese and South African Ministries of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the joint construction of the China-South Africa Forestry Joint Research Center ("中南林业联合研究中心").
The MOU was reportedly signed during bilateral talks held to further clarify the direction and focus of future cooperation between the two entities. The type of funding for the construction is unknown. As of April 25, 2021, the China-South Africa Forestry Joint Research Center is under construction and has hired staff.
On April 7, 2021, researcher Chen Shuaifei, on behalf of the center, made a report on the construction and operation of the center during the "Online Exchange Meeting on the Construction and Operation Experience of China-South Africa Joint Research Center" which was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Science and Innovation of South Africa.
