On December 20, 2019, the China-funded the Luban Workshop at Bamako University was opened. Construction took 3 months.
Implementation of the workshop was done by Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Model Vocational Training Institute, and Bamako University. This is Africa's fourth Luban workshop. The focus of this workshop is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
The unveiling ceremony was held in Kabbalah University City and was attended by Ambassador Zhu Liying of China, Famanta, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Mali, Traore, President of Bamako Humanities University, Diallo, President of Bamako University of Science and Technology, and Yan Guoliang, Deputy Director of Tianjin Education Commission.
1. Luban Workshop (鲁班工坊) is a technical assistance program started by Tianjin's Vocational Institute in BRI countries. While it is an important Chinese foreign policy objective, the workshop is not funded through a specific fund or a government entity. Instead, it is heavily dependent on each project. While the Chinese government may directly fund some projects, Chinese SOEs or the specific vocational schools in Tianjin may fund others. As a result, AidData assumes an unspecified Chinese government agency has funded the project.
