Grant Description

INCUS is an endurance sports analytics company that has developed advanced wearable technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms for Triathlon sports. Based in the UK midlands, INCUS provides greater training insight and motivation for swimmers, runners, and in future, cyclists. The INCUS | NOVA wearable enables a new level of detailed performance monitoring that is not possible with current devices or 'Gold Standards'.

INCUS technologies address the growing need for new ways to engage, motivate and interact while training, coaching and competing in endurance sports, and can be used either for individual swim, run and bike, or for multi-sport triathlons. Covid-19 restrictions and related social-distancing has exacerbated this need for technology and remote training methods.

At the same time, it has prompted a significant upsurge in running and cycling activity during lockdown. With an existing, proprietary hardware and software platform, INCUS is in a prime position to exploit this opportunity and bring true innovation to Triathlon sports through predictive, actionable Analytics Insights developed in this project.

Sports wearables have historically provided "data for data's sake". INCUS Analytics Insights are new software algorithms that use deep learning to process and interpret performance data automatically. This innovation produces clear, written statements that explain interrelationships relating to performance, distilling otherwise complex data into simple actions to help athletes to truly understand what the numbers mean.

This game-changing, predictive feedback will be suitable for athletes of varying ages and abilities and is only possible due to the unique detail and reliability of technique measurements made by the NOVA.

This project will help INCUS to capitalise on the current high demand for data technologies in endurance sport, and the need for Actionable Insights which so far have not been achieved by any other company. Project outputs include improved NOVA hardware to become a standalone wearable for all Triathlon sports, and Analytics Insights, developed alongside professional athletes in coaches in this project, that will set INCUS apart in the marketplace.
