The project aims to strengthen the response to trafficking in human beings for sexual exploitation and forced labour in Cote dIvoire.
This goal will be reached through comprehensive measures targeting criminal justice authorities, support and assistance services, as well as the population at large. Special attention will be given to trafficking in adults for sexual exploitation. UNODC will work with various partners.
The first objective is to build the capacity of law enforcement and justice officials to proactively identify and protect victims of trafficking, paying special attention to particularly vulnerable persons, such as women who were sexually exploited and children in worksites.
Furthermore, in coordination with the West Africa Coast Initiative (UNODC regional law enforcement strengthening program), law enforcement officers will be trained on intelligence-led and proactive investigative techniques.
UNODC will also strengthen the capacity of the Government of Cote dIvoire and civil society organizations to develop a strategy to fight trafficking in adults and initiate a pilot project on a referral mechanism for the protection of and assistance to adult victims. This strategy will be linked to the existing child protection system.
Finally, targeting the demand for trafficking, the programme will raise awareness about TIP among the general public through the implementation of a concerted communication strategy.
