Grant Description

Building on its established presence in Burundi and South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Heartland Alliance will, in conjunction with local partners, continue to provide protection services in the form of emergency shelters, medical services, trauma counseling, legal assistance, economic reintegration, and safe repatriation.

Heartland Alliance will strengthen coordination and collaboration between civil society and the Governments of Burundi and the DRC by establishing a formal mechanism to proactively identify victims of trafficking and refer them to care; as well as devising a unified system for documenting and collecting data on trafficking in persons cases.

Heartland Alliance will conduct public awareness campaigns to prevent human trafficking through community education and mobilization, and develop radio messages to inform communities of potential warning signs of trafficking and how to identify and report TIP cases and access protection services.
