Grant Description

DOJ/OPDAT will post an ILA in Taipei for approximately 3 months.

The funds will also support the travel of a Federal Victim/Witness Coordinator who will participate in training activities over the course of about 30 days.

The ILA will implement TIP activities that will include case consultation and specialized support to the TIP prosecution unit and locally designated TIP prosecutors.

Training for prosecutors will emphasize sensitive treatment of victims and witnesses in TIP cases; increased cooperation between prosecutors and NGOs; the role of victim and witness coordination; the review of charging procedures and other aspects of prosecution to increase prosecution and conviction rates; and obtaining adequate sentencing for TIP cases.

The project will also include a seminar focused on developing a victim referral mechanism and coordinating victim services. The ILA will be a federal prosecutor selected from among the ranks of DOJ.s most experienced anti-TIP attorneys. The duration of the award includes the time needed to place the ILA in country and to write the report.
