The aim of this project is to increase the capacity of governmental and non-governmental actors in Burkina Faso to prevent trafficking and to protect child victims of trafficking. Basic indicators point to Burkina Faso as a major destination country for child trafficking in the West African Region.
IOM will build the capacities of the human trafficking surveillance committees, border and law enforcement officials, security forces, village community leaders, relevant service providers on the issue of victim identification and protection.
At the same time, capacities will be reinforced in the area of cooperation and partnership in order to build a solid referral system among governmental and non-governmental actors concerned.
IOM will also work with the government in order to strengthen the counter-trafficking National Plan of Action against child trafficking, issued by the government in 2009, and will facilitate a dialogue between the service providers, the human trafficking surveillance committees, and other governmental actors to protect victims of trafficking and formalize the proposed referral system.
This national dialogue will also be an opportunity to present the Best Practices Compendium on Counter-Trafficking in Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali and Senegal issued by IOM and ILO in 2009, representation a unique tool for the identification and implementation of best national and multilateral efforts against trafficking in the region.
