In response to the need for a practical approach to strengthen the capacity of prosecutors and police to investigate and prosecute trafficking-related offenses cases in Egypt, IOM (in partnership with the OGP and with the support of a suitably experienced consultant) will develop a handbook on the .Investigation and Prosecution of Human Trafficking in Persons and Treatment of Victims During Law Enforcement Proceedings..
The handbook will list relevant provisions of existing legislation a user-friendly manner (and detail how these may be applied to investigate and prosecute trafficking-related offenses) as well as clearly delineate each body's responsibilities and provide an overview of fundamental principles for those handling cases of human trafficking and dealing with vulnerable victims and/or witnesses.
IOM will aim to update the handbook (as necessary), to reflect any legislative amendment or following enactment of new legislation (in particular, anti-trafficking law).
IOM will disseminate the proposed handbook through its existing comprehensive network of contacts in Egypt's criminal justice sector.
To enhance the impact and sustainability of this initiative, IOM will also share the handbook with relevant national training institutes (so that it may be integrated into initial and in-service training curricula).
