Heartland Alliance will provide trained child protection personnel to be positioned at principal land, sea and air borders of Haiti to assist the Haitian Child Protection Brigade to identify children who are at risk of becoming child trafficking victims.

These professionals will improve the safety of children by enhancing the capacity of the Child Protection Brigade to safely and appropriately deal with the unaccompanied children they identify and stop at border posts.

The child protection staff will provide guidance on child interviewing, assessing needs, referring to and providing transport to interim placements in Haiti.

Heartland Alliance will also provide short-term monitoring of these placements and will coordinate with UNICEF and other actors to trace and reunite unaccompanied children with surviving relatives, whenever possible.
