Preventive Conservation of Pre-Hispanic Archaeological Sites in the Maya Biosphere Reserve

Forestry concessions manage and protect 70 percent of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, which includes pre-Hispanic cultural heritage sites. These sites are increasingly vulnerable to forest fires and archaeological looting.

Through a unique partnership between archaeologists, government officials, and forestry concessions, this project involves the survey and conservation of archaeological heritage located within the Reserve.
